Awesomeness … Coming Soon (Mother’s Day Writing Contest)

Daughter Kissing Mom in ParkIt’s been an exciting couple of weeks, receiving submissions for our Mother’s Day Writing Contest! I feel a little thrill every time a new entry appears in my inbox, because I realize each one took effort, time, thought, and perhaps more than a little bit of courage. For some, I know it’s the first time they’ve entered a writing contest; for others, it’s clear by their stories and bios that they have a LOT going on in their lives.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered the contest and sent in a story or poem!

Each submission has been a privilege to read, because it’s giving honor to mothers … and mothers are awesome! Where would we be without moms? (You don’t have to answer that … though your kids just might be asking it soon, if they haven’t already. Last week, while driving home from school, my five-year-old asked, “Mommy, how did I get out of your tummy once I was ready to be born?”)

The stories also give honor to children, and where would we be without kids? They’re not only the greatest blessing and responsibility we’ll ever bear, but they are also the hope of this world’s future. They are the future, and they help us live in the present.

Here’s to mothers … and to children! (And don’t worry, dads. Father’s Day is next month and you will not be forgotten.)

Tomorrow morning, we’ll be posting the ten finalist stories (and maybe a bonus story too). So please check back in! This contest depends on your votes (by liking the stories on our Facebook page) and I think you will love the stories!
